Painkiller is People Can Fly's 2004 fast-paced first-person shooter of demon hordes, huge bosses and Golden Cards. This free mod adds native OpenXR VR with head tracking and controller-aimed weapons.

What you need

Own Painkiller: Black Edition patched to v1.64 (Heaven's Got a Hitman and/or Battle Out of Hell); dev tested the Steam version, the GOG version is untested

Supply your own legally owned copy; UnflatVR never hosts or links game files.

How to install

Install summary: Copy the files from the zip's Bin folder into the game's Bin folder, then set Cfg.VideoVR = true in Bin/config.ini.

Notes

Native OpenXR VR for the original Painkiller and its Battle Out of Hell expansion: stereo 3D with head tracking, weapons aimed with the right controller with a laser sight, and a full Touch controller layout for moving, turning, jumping, weapon switching, zoom, flashlight and Golden Cards. Dev's page: tested on Quest 2 over Virtual Desktop; other OpenXR headsets and runtimes are expected to work. Works alongside mods that leave the game's executable files alone.
